In other random news, after much bantering with my father, he's finally said, "Eh...why not? Gay, straight...not like it makes a difference legally..." Step up for my pops!

For one minor second I actually agree with Alex. Religious institutions should be allowed to consecrate whatever they deem fit. However, there is no real non-religious reason for a same-sex/gender/whatever couple to get married if they are consenting adults who can contribute to society; as a political provision any legal adult should be allowed to marry another legal adult. I'm totally okay with individual churches/institutions choose not to perform ceremonies if they're that grossly offended. However, they should take a long look at their faith in order to do so, and quite frankly, shut their damn mouth at someone from another group marrying.

For one minor second I actually agree with Alex. I thought you meant his statement about me for a hot second and almost started crying. #sharkweek.

Oh yeah, I mean, that's fine. Don't some (emphasis on SOME; I know others are cool) religions/sects/whatever have restrictions on what kind of STRAIGHT couples they will marry? My dad had to jump through hoops to convert to Judaism to get married to my mom in a temple by a rabbi, in order to make her parents happy. And I know some religious leaders won't marry a member of their congregation to an atheist or member of another sect. It may be close minded and intolerant, but I for one wouldn't want to be married somewhere/by someone who can't accept me for who I am anyway. Can you guys picture me getting married in a church? Bahaha. Ain't happening. To me, the idea is to gain recognition under the law, and have equal access to all the benefits included therein.
In other news, I read today that there is a marriage equality bill being introduced in Illinois, and when the new legislature convenes next month, there will be a Democratic SUPERmajority.
C'monnnn, Illinois!

I should add that I understand it's a false equivalency; most straight couples could probably BS their way into getting married somewhere if they wanted, whereas a gay couple could not. I was not trying to suggest the situations were the same, just trying to point out that religious institutions having reservations on who they'll marry is nothing new. Blah, it's nearly 3am.

If I heard someone call you a whore in real life I would probably scream at them and have my voice shoot up two octaves. It would be embarrassing for everyone. Also, what was that about he who is without sin cast the first stone? I distinctly remember a blowjob story in a bathroom that I'd rather forget. It took me about three months to want to listen to Deftones again.

And lesbian fantasies about me and Megan.
He confessed it. He'll deny it.

^HAHA! High five, though now that you've pointed it out, my eyes hurt for I am blinded by the hypocrisy. And though the blowjob story was/is of dubious veracity, that makes it no less scarring. Maybe it's just me, but every time he posted about sex (my memory has thankfully spared me the details of the other times), he came across as someone who watched a lot of porn but had never had any real relations with another human. Which is fine, whatever...just don't take it out on the rest of us.
So, uh...yeah. The Supreme Court is taking up Prop 8 and DOMA this year...yeah.

Well Illinois may have same-sex legal thingies soon, which almost makes up for some of their more notable musical exports in recent years...

I feel heartbroken because my brother just called me to lament the hate he faced while attending a public hearing for gay marriage in Rhode Island. I told him that these people are stepping up their vitriol because they know they are on the losing end of the fight. Is it wrong to have different standards for different states? If Mississippi approved civil unions it would be a miracle, but really, Rhode Island? Marriage time, like every other state around you.
This is killing me. The governor is cool, unlike last time this came around in RI so we have a chance.
There's a lot more I could post but everything just really sucks.

Just read about the progress in Scouting with regards to the ban on gay scouts and leaders. Scouting in general, has some interesting guidelines. When I first started working with BSA I remember having a conversation with my then-boyfriend about the religious oath we had to sign in our paperwork. He was atheist, but had been in scouting for years so rather casually he said, "It doesn't actually matter..." I could really go into it but I guess I'm just pointing out a...point? Just like the occasional "You're a girl, how are you working at a boy scout camp?" I'd hear.
Scouts certainly isn't perfect, but I'd be happy to see a step in the right direction. No one should be prohibited from participating in an organization based on their sexual orientation, especially if said organization prides itself on promoting worldly, knowledgeable and decent boys (and girls!). And it actually does--some of my best and favorite friends are boy scouts, and my little brother has really been given amazing opportunities in scouting that he wouldn't otherwise have. But mind you, I've got a pretty specific and limited perspective. Any boy scouts in the room? (Jon?)

If this changes, I'll be glad, but it won't stop the pedo-stigma that's so rampant in Scouting...
Also, it would be nice to be an out Eagle rather than a ninjaqueer at functions.
Also, I think Wyoming passed some civil partnership bill? Go You?
