As you've no doubt seen, today the California Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Judge Vaughn Walker's overturning of Proposition 8. Awesome quote from the article: There is still a stay in place on performing any new gay weddings in California as the SCOTUS decides whether or not to hear the appeal; this could drag on into next year. But it is a step in the right direction! In other news, the state Senate pf Washington last week passed same-sex marriage; it is expected to pass in the WA House, and the governor is eager to sign it. In less encouraging gubernatorial exploits, it would appear the New Jersey legislature is ready to pass it as well, but their blowhard governor has vowed to veto it. This guy!

Also, this is my progress chart. I keep it in my desk at work. States w/same sex marriage are colored in; civil unions are outlined. Of course, some of the hardest states to outline (RI; HI; DE) have civil unions. But what's a girl to do? Hopefully I can post an update (and get a better picture) soon.

You can colour in all of Canada Although, apparently when you do get married here, it doesn't count.

Not going to lie, I'd love to do a more global version, if only to include mi España bella. And I find it interesting that Canada went the opposite route of New York State: NY decided to recognize marriages performed in other states where it was legal before legalizing them itself. There are other states that recognize marriages performed in states where it is legal, but they're not progressive enough for MY progress chart. Haha. Keeping my fingers crossed for those non-citizen Canadians.

I hate marriage just because I just want that to between you and your religion. The bond between you and the state should be a simple civil union. That's all. It would solve most problems if you cut it out, but doing so would be so radical for poor widdle America ... bah... I'm exhausted and sober, forgive me... no energy to write cogent thoughts... fuck santorum...

Another awesome quote from the judges' decision: HA! Personally, I don't really care if I ever get married, but I think it should be available to gays, atheists, and even gay atheists. Imagine how much Frothy would hate that! For that reason alone , it should be legal. Forget about "equality" and all that other commie liberal BS.

Wahooooo, Washington House! My only question being, why does the governor have to wait until next week to sign it into law? Ah well. My colored pencils lay dormant in anticipation.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR HOMOPHPBIA: mods note: I'm leaving this so you can see what a piece of shit he is. As a queer person he is not welcome here as this is a safe space for queer persons. He got a permanent ban from me and this is non negotiable. Go fuck yourself and I hope you die alone and your hand becomes forever chapped from all the beating off you will have to do. This more so about what he said to Katie on the next page.
I no longer care whether states recognize marriage for non-hetero couples. I only want provisions in that recognition stating that if a religious organization such as a church does not recognize these unions under the practice of their beliefs, that the church's decision would be protected by the right to practice religion freely and that there would be no way to force a church to legally acknowledge it. After I am licensed to perform marriages, I am vowing never to marry a gay couple and I think that vow is Constitutional.
