edition.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/08/06/mississippi.hate.crime/index.htmlI really don't want to turn this into a "Fuck White People" discussion, but the mere fact that shit like this is STILL happening in this country (and yes, I know the world, but America likes to think it's the beacon of forward thinking, but we all know how that goes, this is as separate discussion, but how the FUCK are we going to help the rest of the world, when our own backyard is completely and utterly a disgrace) is just absolutely fucking disgusting. I have been posting this everywhere, but everyone should know that shit like this still happens and should be fucking angry about it. Anyone who thinks that racial equality exists in this country or that white privilege is not a problem or even a real thing is sorely mistaken. I've always been on the fence about the death penalty, but these kids deserve the absolute worst, most inhumane way to die legally possible. I know it sounds terrible and hypocritical but I'm just a fountain of emotion right now and speaking out of rage. These kids' parents deserve a pound of anthrax in their mail for allowing their children to be such shitty pieces of trash (also, I'm just speaking from pure emotion and need to get it out. I'm aware this is also a fucked up thing to say.). I read this article and watched the video in tears. My heart aches for this poor man's family. No one should ever have to spend their last moments like this. And if you want to lose faith in humanity even more, read the comments. Or just...just fucking don't. Ugh.

This was the first comment I read on that page. This is my exact feeling and motto and for reasons unbeknownst to us as human beings, people don't get it.
I don't know if any amount of "whys" can ever give us a valid reason for this kind of behavior. Best I can come up with is: people are ignorant fucksticks.
That's it.
People suck. Nuff said.

I grew up in the south, so I'm not surprised. I wish I were. I was born in South Carolina, raised in Atlanta Georgia, and I live just north of Montgomery Alabama now. I'm not surprised that this happened in Jackson. Jackson is where the freedom riders were stopped and all of them were arrested. They had to use the U.S. ARMY to get the people there to stop being racist fuckers in the 60s. You'd think that 50 years later, it would've stopped. But the racists fucksticks who live there (and here) just keep passing it down...generation to generation. Just like their Ford F250s. That's the mark of a southern douche. A Ford F-250. "Hey y'all I gort mah Ford eff two fiffffffty lets go ridiinnnnn'!" I'm only half kidding. Even people that I openly label racist in my family and here in Alabama say, "those racists over in Mississippi" and that's pretty awful. That's a pretty big "You're Doing It Wrong" but I suppose they think they're doing it right. It's blind hatred. And the kid's family encouraged it, evidenced by the fact that the girl at his house pretended not to know the kid that killed Anderson even though they were most likely related (probably interrelated). In the south, that's how you show off your dick size: trucks and racism. I hope ALL the fuckers involved get punished to the fullest extent of the law - in Mississippi, I'm pretty sure that's the death penalty. Normally I'd be against the death penalty, but I'm not sure I have any respect for the humanity of a person who goes looking, LOOKING for just any random black person to run over just because he feels like he has the privilege...

Sickening. Ugh, that video...how could anyone...disgusting.
Racism is still such a huge problem, and white privilege is very much real. I realize that there are things some people might assume about other people that they wouldn't about me, since I'm white, and that just fucking sucks.
My heart goes out to Anderson and his family. I hope that kid rots (I didn't see any mention of the death penalty in the article, only two consecutive life sentences.)

I know I'm cynical. But this is what I think is going to happen because I've lost every single ounce of faith in humanity and in our justice system (especially due to the fact that PoC's are still treated VASTLY different by law enforcement and courts than white people).
These asshole kids, and judging by the house from the video, likely have parents with money who can hire gutless, expensive lawyers. I can bet you anything their life sentences will be reduced and they could very well be out of jail in 10-15 years.
THAT'S WHAT'S GOING TO MOTHER FUCKING HAPPEN, WELL IF IT DOES, I WON'T BE FUCKING SURPRISED. That's how absolutely fucked everything is.
Racism is very real to me. Racial crimes are a very scary thing. Rural PA is not quite as bad and assbackwards as the South (sorry, I know it's not everyone, but what Katie says is painfully true) but it can be really fucked. There's plenty of neo-nazis and KKK members and racists not even affiliated with those groups. I am technically a person of color. (I'm half white so I do have some white privilege, but I've faced threats of violence due to my race). My dad is a dark skinned person of color. He might not worry about it because he believes in the delusions Fox News paints over peoples' eyes, but I do.
My dad looks Middle Eastern. Imagine how terrified I felt to hear about attacks on middle easterners and muslims in this country after 9/11. It legitimately scares me.
Seriously. I cried SO much reading this article. And even seeing it pop up in other places now, it's still shaking me up. I cried about it again. It hurts to see this. It really fucking hurts. That poor man and his family. No one deserves this.

agree with what a lot that was said. it's really tragic, disgusting, and a reminder of how prevalent outright racism still is in this country.
but this whole anti south vibe im getting from this thread is ridiculous, not to mention prejudice in its own way. i know you guys are rightfully upset about this incredible injustice, but seriously. the generalizations katie and nicole are making are not cool, at all. yes, there are a lot of terrible people in the south, maybe more so than other places in this country, but we're not all racist, backward, bible thumping rednecks. most of us are pretty decent people. and i dont appreciate those kinds of stereotypes 'n' generalizations, especially in a thread about racism.

Whoa, hey, maybe I did come off cynical about the south in the last post but I do love it here. I've lived here for all 20 years of my life, after all. If it weren't for the rampant racism it'd be the best place on earth (well, maybe I could deal without 6 months of 90+ degree heat...).
Obviously I don't believe everyone is a "racist, backward, bible thumping redneck" for living here, since I live here and I married someone from here, and neither or us fit any of those categories.
I'm not backpedaling, though. I stand by what I said, although I shouldn't have said it about everyone in the south, but it is true of a vast majority of people here.
And because of that, the kids will probably get off either very easily or completely.

Yeah, I'm not saying ALL of the South. And hell, bigotry is even prevalent in major cities like Philly. I'm just saying racism is definitely culturally perpetuated a lot differently. I meant the racist culture that exists in the South. Not ALL of the South. I might not have clearly stated that and thought what I put in parenthesis covered it.
