This May I landed a job as the music writer for a web-magazine based in Houston. We're still trying to iron out the details of the site and ensure we're "launch ready", but we're getting closer! It's not ideal in the sense that it's limiting at times, but it's a really good starting-point and it's helping me build a name for myself. Not to mention, my boss is super flexible and my co-workers are nice. Plus I have business cards and an office (NOT A CUBICLE!) and yep. It's cool. I do that part-time and then I'm at school two days a week until I graduate in December! Yay for no more student loans! Yay for moving on with my future! Yay for possibly moving to the West Coast within the next year!!!!!!

So I got offered a second job working with a 2nd grader in my classroom after school on weekdays until her mom gets home from work (6 or 7pm). It would pay $10/hr too.
Anyways, it means I wouldn't go back to school until I move back to Portland next year, which is oddly fine with me because at this moment in my life, I don't even want to think about college. Just thinking about taking one class gives me anxiety and makes me sob. I'm a sad-sack. Oh well, mo' money fo' meeeeeeee.

The last few weeks have been pretty crap workwise, it's been super quiet, so I went about 5 weeks without any shifts at all. But it's starting to pick up, and it'll be school holidays so it'll be busy as fuck.

My checks are measly, so I'm in search of a 2nd job that does weekends and nights. 3-6 is just horrible. I'd rather cut down my hours at the Y and just work all weekend. The thing that sucks about working for after school programs is that I'm helping kids get shit done that I also need to get done, like homework and whatnot. I'm pulling the Jew card to get out of working on Rosh Hashanah. I need a day off.

so besides working 7 hours at the most wonderful elementary school, i now also work for 3 hours after school every day (and sometimes 8 hours on saturdays) with a student in my life skills class who has rhett's syndrome. she's seriously the cutest and best kid ever and if it weren't for the fact that i love my job, working 50-60 hours a week would kill me. but i love my job! i also started hanging out with an adult with disabilities for a few hours every week. i go get coffee with her, go shopping, etc. pretty much i'm supposed to model social behaviors for her and be someone who sets rules that isn't her foster parent. it's fun and pays quite a bit.
so yeah, that is why i've been a busy bee and not visiting. i do miss you all, though! but, extra monies.

I've finally gotten over my anxiety about working (mostly) but I really don't think I can go back into retail. We'll see what I can find when Dillon gets his orders (we get our house, basically).

I love my job. There's aspects I'm not too fond of (the majority customer base are all pretty rude/shitty/entitled rich ivy league kids/employees) but overall it doesn't destroy my soul. It's just a lot of work.
To the point where because of my knee condition, I'm not going to able to be working a job that I have to spend many hours on my feet much longer without serious knee surgery. And that worries me. Because I can't get a desk job to save my life. I've been trying for years but no one wants me.

I need a new job because some employees are fucking ignorant twats. The second I got home, I started applying online elsewhere. I will be printing out my resume and looking places as soon as I can.

I apply to many jobs and never hear back from people. I call hospitals and labs and only get their voicemail. I e-mail HR people and never hear back. I'm applying for positions I'm way over qualified for and subsequently get told I'm over qualified, and yet I don't get called back for jobs I am perfectly qualified for. Bah. Healthcare in Utah sucks. I know eventually I'll have to leave the state to find good work. But as I have at least another year before that's possible, I'm going for less just so I can have the experience and my own money.

I hate when places pull the "over qualified" bullshit on you.
In other news, I went out with co-workers on Friday night. I forgot what it feels like to work with people you actually want to hang out with outside of work.
