YOB YOB YOB. Tonight I had my first chance do to some actual bench work. Not too much, as I don't have a handle on the lab information system yet, but I did do some analysis and dilutions. I also got a basic rundown of the instruments I'm going to be running. I'll be training on swings for the next few weeks, then I'll move up to my scheduled grave shift. I CAN'T WAIT.

I never come in here enough because I feel like I keep up with you all on other sites, even though I actually talk to you more here. Blah! If I suddenly unfollow you all on tumblr, it might be to drive my ass to the Pit more often.
I'm polishing the ol' resume currently and applying for two jobs. One in Burbank, another in SF. Sadly, neither are exactly what I'm wanting but they have their trade-offs. The Burbank job is at Warner Music Group and it's not the job I originally wanted, but entry level jobs usually tend to lead to promotions. The job in SF is at SF Weekly - it's my dream city, a staff-writing job but not in the music section (just news, but I can handle that until there's an opening, right?). Trade-offs at both.
I'm just worried about leaving the job I have now. I love where I'm at now, but I'm worried that the place won't survive without me because I'm willing to basically run the company for not even poverty-level salary. Seriously. I was hired as a freelance writer who was asked to stay after graduation - things are picking up, but not enough. I'm also not being credited for my writing because that's "not our format" or something like that, and did I mention that I'm all but running the entire company/website?
I'm nervous to be on my own away from home, but I can't stay here any longer and I know that. I just wish I was raised in a city that had more jobs for creative types. Instead, writing jobs are scarce (the only jobs I can find are analytic and research jobs for oil companies), and I really don't want to work a string of part-time jobs to make ends meet for a life of misery.
Being an adult fucking sucks.

Kick some ass Alyssa!
There is a semi slight chance there could be a management spot opening at my job in the spring and I intend to get in some brownie points at work to make sure it's mine. I hope.

Still at the museum for now. Spoken to one of the people at my work's head office, slight chance there could be some work in there. If not, I'll just keep looking.
Not enjoying having to do the job search. Hopefully it'll be easier this time around.

Eyeball goop = gross. However, it sounds awesome otherwise!

I'm kinda at a crossroads with my two jorbs. I've been with both for quite some time now (probably since this place was hoppin). I'm supposed to be talking to my district manager at sbux about a possible promotion in the new year, and my boss at the insurance company says he'd love to have me work full time. The only issue with the insurance job is the commute (it takes about an hour to drive there when there's no traffic).
So I guess we'll see what happens

I'm working at Hopper as a supervisor for the customer support team - I've been here for 6 months so far, and I've had two promotions. It's awesome. The start-up/tech company vibe is on a whole other level (so many perks and benefits and free shit). Plus I feel like I've actually learned some skills (like airline/ticketing things).

Sheesh, my last post was like a job and a half ago.
I've been working the lab at the Salt Lake VA hospital coming up on three years now. In those three years, I went from being a regular old grunt tech, to microbiology/hematology senior technologist, to hematology lead. My days are spent hand-holding, putting out fires, beating my head against a brick wall, and haggling with bureaucrats to just get basic shit so the lab can just function normally. All the while, having to "lead by example" and work the bench and not getting anything else done.
I have a weird love/hate relationship with it all.

I do payroll/HR for a tech company and it's the best job I've had and the best paying which is a hell of a nice combination. I've already decided if I continue in HR either here or at another company I'm going to frame a picture of Toby Flenderson and hang it in my office.

Mine isn't much different from when I posted before, but it's at a different hospital much closer to where I live. I also don't do x-rays anymore, only CT scans. It sucks because I miss doing OR cases and because I feel like I'm losing my x-ray skills, but the pay is better and it's only five minutes from my house. So, hey, give and take, I guess.

I work for a third party billing company. We bill the state of Ohio on behalf of providers for individuals with developmental disabilities. It's the best job I've had so far.
