Okay, I'll start the jockey sports talk I see Mike is on and if there's one thing I missed from the old thread, it's hockey talk with Mike and the rest of y'all. I know Mike's sporting the Habs, Nicole's got her Flyers, and so on... So... commence!

Yeah, cuz if the NFL and NBA don't get their shit together, it's the only sport that'll be on this winter.
Anyway, Habs' doings: signed UFA Erik Cole at $18m for 4 years. Big centre, has the ability to score, but he's on the decline I believe. Definitely overpaid, but hopefully he can produce.
As well, MTL has re-signed many of their core players from last year (Gill, Kostitsyn, Pacioretty, Desharnais, and Markov just to name a few).
Around the league: the West is amping up for some competitive post-season play. The Kings, Sharks and Wild have made some trades to make their teams that much better. In the East, even though the Flyers had a solid playoff run, they decided to blow up their team (there were rumours of a certain player sleeping with another player's wife, and a lot of locker room contention).
Alright, that's it for now.

^ Canada didn't steal the Thrashers, it was just that nobody local (including a group that consisted of Jerry Bruckheimer, Li'l Jon, and others) put up the money to keep them in Atlanta. So True North S&E put a bid for the team and none of the other NHL owners voted against it. Sorry, Katie

Sorry, Katie I know Canada didn't technically steal them, but it upsets me. there are some hardcore hockey fans here, and we could have done a lot more with promotion to bring in money (and hopefully make the people in charge put up the money) but no one bothered until they were gone. Even then I think it only merited a side story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Free Agency has been a pretty fun watch. I’m happy for the Blue Jackets, they made some good moves. Wings picking up D-men was huge for us (and the Lidstrom guy coming back). I love the Ian Smith signing. I think he can play a huge role for us. The Commodore signing is win/win, I think. He was a big part of Steve Mason’s rookie season success and the Jackets only playoff appearance. Needless to say, I’m ready for puck drop: 2011-12 edition.

Also, what do you call a goaltender who's top 10 in wins with 401 and 3 Cups? Hopefully a Hall of Famer...

^ That could work too. I've called him that in his later years. Osgood, Osbad... whatever, he's a HOFer

^ Well, don't expect him to get in on his first shot. Pat Burns has been snubbed twice so far, so you might have to wait at least 5 years.

I don't think he'll be a first ballot at all, but man, he deserves to be in. The beauty of sports: stats and numbers don't lie.

there isn't a hockey team worth watching in NE Ohio.
This makes me sad.
I am considering getting the streaming package next season so I will likely either watch the Blue Jackets or the Blackhawks to keep up with my "Cleveland"/Chicago sports teams.

What the fuck, hockey world? Quit being so mentally and emotionally tough on your bruisers/fighters! This is the second hockey tough guy to go kill himself this offseason. RIP Rick Rypien

Wow, it was only two weeks between Rick Rypien and Wade Belak?!? That's nuts.
Very sad to hear that this former Leafer hanged himself yesterday. Growing up, I got a lot of Leafs games and Wade Belak was a big enforcer. And he was a great personality off the ice too. So sad.

It's just exhibition, but it's fun to see the boys on the ice for some preseason puck.
