No baseball thread yet? WELL NOW WE HAS.
I will forever be irked with my lack of Mets games, but it's something I'll have to deal with while I'm still living in the high desert.
In the tradition of the New York Mets, they are doing just barely mediocre sitting at third place behind Philly and Atlanta (gag me). Top players are suddenly sucking, I don't even know where the fuck they got half the team at this point, and yet I somehow still like how Collins is running the team. Weird... Two top players will be going free agent after this season, and most likely, they'll leave the team. The club is becoming more and more broke as the season goes along, so I honestly wouldn't blame Reyes or Beltran for walking. Le sigh.
I'm gonna go watch the game I did manage to get; they're playing the Marlins, 3-2 Florida. Fingers crossed and shit.

It's weird, I don't give two shits about MLB teams, but I love college ball and our minor league team. My bff's parents have behind home plate season tickets to U of O Ducks games (brand new stadium!) and OSU is a rad team. I love going to Eugene Em's games because even though it's only the minor leagues, i always have tons of fun and on Tuesdays, the beer is half off. Boom. Go Em's!

Tickets to Akron Aeros games are super cheap and it isn't too far from our house. We don't go often, but it is much better than trekking up to Cleveland to watch the Indians.

Minor league ball here is so-so. The single A team near me is terrible, but what makes going to games so much fun is the atmosphere. People are actually there to watch the game, no matter how badly the Raptors do. The triple A team out of Salt Lake is decent, but going to games is just playing annoying. All these families show up because it's a "family activity", the spend all their time chasing their kids around, eating over-priced food, spilling said food on others (thankfully, the one time I had food dumped on me, it was just popcorn), and not paying any attention whatsoever to the game. It just ruins the whole experience. As for major league...I knew Beltran would end up leaving the Mets...and I'm kind of neutral about it. Beltran is NOT that great a player. He has his moments, but his track record is too much of a roller coaster. Now it's just the wait to see what Reyes will do after the season. And story of my life...the Mets are pretty much trouncing the Reds as we speak (despite them getting a run in the past five minutes...grr), and this kind of crap only happens when I don't get the game. I'm a curse to the team, I swear.

^ I swear, the Reds are the most frustrating team to watch. So much talent, yet no results. I guess that's what happens when you're opening day starter and #2 starter are in AAA and our #3 starter has a 5+ ERA and giving up the most home runs in baseball.

I should not be watching this game. Every time I watch a Mets game, they lose. I cannot let Mike have that satisfaction again!

Hey my team won again tonight, too! (but so did yours goddammit)
So the other night, Jose Reyes got pulled from the game with apparent hamstring problems and now on the 15-day DL. Meanwhile, Daniel Murphy's knee got fucked during a tag-out at second. He's also on the 15-day DL, but I'm betting it's likely he's out for the rest of the season.
Thankfully Nick Evans has been a good back-up for first base. The Mets have had to bring a few guys up out of the minors to cover the infield...some well before they're ready for major league play, it seems. It's nerve-racking as fuck, but we'll see how these guys (or kids, depending on how you wanna see it) fair as we get closer to determining play-off slots. Which I'm not getting my hopes too up on...
